Ellie Goulding: Stunning In Every Aspect

Ellie Goulding is an incredible talent, no doubt about it. She exhibits an interesting blend of music that ranges from electro-pop to indie folk. Her live album of Itunes Festival London 2010 sounds almost too good to have been performed live. It consists mostly of songs off her first full-length studio album "Lights." 

I'm a sucker for some piano. So naturally I took an immediate liking to Ellie Goulding's cover of Elton John's Your Song. It's simplicity is my favorite part because it really showcases her voice. It's vulnerability and elegance capture the perfect emotion needed for this particular love song. 

For all of my fellow Minnesotans, she will be performing at First Avenue on March 31 for the almost too cheap price of 15 dollars.

I am not a Robot - Marina and the Diamonds


Marina Lambrini Diamandis is beautiful singer with a beautiful voice. Nothing is sexier than a female singer-songwritter with a good voice. She states that she wrote this song to herself. The message of this song is to stop being so ridiculous and not let the fear of failing stop you.

Zorbing - Stornoway 


A truly beautiful song. Lead singer Brian Briggs has a truly incredible voice that creates a warm feel to the song. Favorite part of the song are the words "heaven's open." Whenever luck or fortune is bestowed upon me I think to myself that "heaven's open."

Royal Blue - Cold War Kids


Royal Blue rose to the top of my "Most Played" playlist in a matter of days. Already safe to say is one of my favorite songs. i've been looking for the chords everywhere online and have yet to find them. Expect a cover version by myself when I do. I love the shift in emotion early in the song. It is as if he breaks his self doubt with the words "Oh whoaa I guess I've always been a bit of a fighter."I also love the chorus. He finds himself and decides who he will be.

Sprawl II - Arcade Fire



Arcade Fire is one of my favorite bands. They incorporate a lot of different instruments in their songs to create a nice variety of styles. Majority of songs are sung by Win Butler, however, this specific song is sung by Régine Chassagne, the wife and co-foudner of the band. She plays from a wide variety of instruments when she isn't singing, such as: accordion, drums, piano, and xylophone. My favorite part of this song are the lyrics, "Like mountains beyond mountains." Very moving and a very beautiful song.
